“Shazam!” is a must-see for any fan of the character and the DC Comics movies to date. It’s a far different film than its predecessors, and that’s a very good thing because DC’s movie formula hasn’t always worked.
“The Oath” presents itself as part holiday comedy, part sociopolitical satire, and all political progressive nightmare. In terms of its target audience, the film presses all the right buttons to check all those boxes. Arguably, it pushes them too well, and the final result is more depressing than funny.
As a sly and self-aware homage to beloved spy films past and present, and as a slick and stylish action thriller with a definite subversive streak, “Kingsman: The Secret Service” is easily the most fun to be had at the box office so far this year.
